Activated 1972 in Vilnius, Lithuanian SSR, as a mobilisation division, from the 597th Motorised Rifle Regiment (107th Motorised Rifle Division).

The division was unmanned, except for some pre-assigned officers, serving with the parent division (107th Motorised Rifle Division) - the equipment set was co-located with the 107th Motorised Rifle Division until 1981.

Unfortunately, sub-unit numbers are rarely known within mobilisation divisions.

Organisation 1980:

1981 transferred to Pabrade, Lithuanian SSR.

Organisation 1988:

1.7.89 renamed 5191st Equipment Storage Base.
