Activated 2.60 in Yantarny, Kaliningrad Oblast, from the 000 independent Coastal Missile Battalion (activated 6.58).

Initially equipped with 3 battalions of 4K87 Solka (NATO: SSC-2B Samlet).

In 1971 began coversion to the 4K44B Redut (SSC-1 Sepal) - completed 1974.

In 1982 at least one battalion re-quipped with the 4K40 Rubezh (SSC-3 Styx) missile.

Im 1.93 renamed 523rd independent Coastal Missile and Artillery Brigade, with four battalion (later three battalions), including the 788th independent Coastal Missile Battalion, arriving from the 844th independent Coastal Missile Regiment.

1.12.95 renamed 25th independent Coastal Missile Regiment.

Launch positions in the area around 54 57 11N, 19 59 15E.
