Activated 7.60 in Luzhny (Luzna), Latvian SSR, as the 10th independent Coastal Missile Regiment, from the 10th independent Mobile Coastal Artillery Regiment.

The first 4K87 Solka (SSC-2B Samlet) missile had arrived already in 5.60.

Initially equipped with 3 battalions of 4K87 Solka (NATO: SSC-2B Samlet).

In 1972 began coversion to the 4K44B Redut (SSC-1 Sepal) - completed 1974.

1.12.72 reduced, and renamed 1216th independent Coastal Missile Battalion.

1.11.74 renamed 844th independent Coastal Missile Regiment.

In 1981 at least one battalion re-quipped with the 4K40 Rubezh (SSC-3 Styx) missile.

In 1984 the 789th independent Coastal Missile Battalion was detached, and were transferred to the Kurile Islands (648th independent Coastal Missile Regiment).

In 2.93 the 788th independent Coastal Missile Battalion transferred to Donskoye, Kaliningrad Oblast, while the HQ and 1251st independent Coastal Missile Battalion were transferred to Kronshtadt, Leningrad Oblast (Fort Rif). The HQ was disbanded soon after.

Launch positions were in the areas around 57 35 28N, 21 53 06E and 57 34 11N, 21 43 15E.
