Formed 26.8.39 in Schweinfurt from parts of III./Flak-Regiment 9, with 3 Batterien (known as Res.Flakscheinwerfer-Abt. 909 until 7.42).

4./Sw.909 was formed in late 1942; 5./Sw.909 was formed in 1943.

In late 1942 1./Sw.909 became 4./308, and was reformed.

In 1944:

4./Sw.909 was disbanded (7.44); reformed from 1./188 (10.44)
5./Sw.909 became 6./529 (10.44), and was reformed from 3./188 (10.44)
6./Sw.909 from 4./188 (10.44)
