Activated 6.1.68 in Stettin, Poland, as the 26th Air Defence Artillery Brigade OPK, from the 129th independent Air Defence Artillery Regiment.

Initially with 4 S-75M (SA-2) Battalions.

1.7.85 the 78th Air Defence Regiment was activated in Mrzezyno with S-200VE (SA-5) missiles:

In 6.88 renamed 26th Missile Brigade OPK.

Organisation 1988:

30.4.90 the 37th and 66th Air Defence Battalions were disbanded.

21.10.91 renamed 26th Air Defence Missile Brigade.

30.8 to 5.10.95 the 42nd, 43rd and 67th Air Defence Battalions were disbanded.

31.10.99 the 36th Air Defence Battalion was disbanded.

9.11.2000 the 38th, 39th, 40th and 70th Air Defence Battalions were disbanded.

31.12.2001 the brigade was disbanded - the 78th Air Defence Missile Regiment became independent.
