Activated 1953 in Britovo, Moscow Oblast - initially as the 1933rd Anti-Aircraft Artillery Regiment for Special Use and from 1955 as the 597th Anti-Aircraft Missile Regiment for Special Use.

1953 to 1988 equipped with 60 S-25 (SA-1) launchers:

• Launch area: 55 27 54N, 38 09 03E (US designation: Moscow SAM site C14-1)
• Support area: 55 29 05N, 38 08 02E
• Guidance area: 55 28 41N, 38 07 31E

1988 converted to the S-300PM (SA-10), and was reduced to an independent Anti-Aircraft Missile Battalion of the 614th Anti-Aircraft Missile Regiment.
