Activated 22.11.52 in Klenovo, Moscow Oblast - initially as the 1921st Anti-Aircraft Artillery Regiment for Special Use and from 1955 as the 549th Anti-Aircraft Missile Regiment for Special Use.

1953 to 1988 equipped with 60 S-25 (SA-1) launchers:

• Launch area: 55 20 32N, 37 21 57E (US designation: Moscow SAM site C20-1)
• Support area: 55 20 54N, 37 23 35E
• Guidance area: 55 21 41N, 37 22 32E

1988 converted to the S-300PM (SA-10) with two independent battalions:

• 1st independent Anti-Aircraft Missile Battalion (Ivino, Moscow Oblast) - 55 21 33N, 37 36 25E
• 2nd independent Anti-Aircraft Missile Battalion and HQ (Klenovo, Moscow Oblast) - 55 21 47N, 37 26 34E

9.94 reduced to an independent battalion of the 614th Anti-Aircraft Missile Regiment.

5.98 united with the 879th Anti-Aircraft Missile Regiment, and renamed 549th Red Banner Anti-Aircraft Missile Regiment.
