In 1969 an independent Anti-Aircraft Missile Group with 2 launch S-200 (SA-5) battalions were added to the regiment:

Anti-Aircraft Missile Battalion (51 50 08N, 113 27 38E) with 6 S-200 (SA-5) launchers
Technical Battalion (support area: 51 50 14N, 113 28 01E - guidance & tracking area: 51 50 10N, 113 26 53E)
From 1977 equipped with S-200V (SA-5) missiles.
1988 with 4 S-75M3 (SA-2) and 2 S-200V (SA-5) battalions.
1993 inherited the Guards title from the disbanded 469th Guards Anti-Aircraft Missile Brigade, and was renamed 178th Guards Anti-Aircraft Missile Regiment.
