Originally called Krasina class. 10 ships were planned (four for the Northern Fleet, four for the Pacific Fleet and one each for the Black Sea and Baltic Fleets) - later reduced to six ships. The first three were considerable delayed during construction, due to problems with the main armament, the P-500 missile.

Slava - 61 Kommunara - serial no. 2008 - laid down 5.11.76 - launched 27.7.79 - completed 30.12.82; tests began 9.82; from 7.2.83 attached to the 150th Missile Ship Brigade (originally intended for the Pacific Fleet); 9.83 Minister of Defence Ustinov visited the ship; 15.10.83 arrived in Severomorsk for missile tests, and returned to Sevastopol in 1984; 4.85 damaged due to a fire onboard - repaired 9.85; 27.5.86 to 20.2.87 operations in the Mediterranean and the Northern Atlantic - tracked USS "Forrestal" and USS "America" - 9.86 visited Tartus, Syria - 18.11 to 22.11.86 visited Piraeus, Greece; 4.87 sailed with Commander of the Navy Gorshkov onboard; 1.89 to 3.89 repaired at 61 Kommunara; 1.12.89 to 2.12.89 visited La Valetta, Malta, during the Gorbachev-Bush summit; 8.90 tested in Yalta during the international conference on nuclear control; 21.3.91 began repairs and modernization at 61 Kommunara - the 30mm AK-630M guns were removed - then towed to Sevmorzavod, Sevastopol, where the guns were installed again; 1993 repair work stopped, but resumed in 1995; 16.5.95 renamed "Moskva"; 13.5.98 awarded the Guards title; 21.7.99 arrived in Sevastopol from Nikolayev; 25.7.99 took part in naval parade in Sevastopol; 4.2000 returned to service; 2001 visited Tunis, Tunisia; 13.10 to 11.11.2002 operations in the Mediterranean, with SKR "Pytlivyy", BDK "Yamal" and tanker "Ivan Bubnov"; 4.2003 to 5.2003 operations in the Indian Ocean, with BDK "Tsezar Kunnikov", tankers "Ivan Bubnov" and "Shakhter" - joined in the Indian Ocean by BPK "Admiral Panteleev", "Admiral Shaposhnikov" and tanker "Vladimir Kolechitskiy"; 2003 a meeting between the Russian President Putin and the Italian PM Berlusconi took place onboard the cruiser; 24.9.2004 visited La Valletta, Malta; 10.2.2006 arrived in Messina, Italy, and took part in the NATO exercise "Active Endeavour"; 9.5.2014 took part in the victory parade in Sevastopol; 9.5.2015 took part in the victory parade in Sevastopol

Marshal Ustinov - 61 Kommunara - serial no. 2009 - laid down 5.10.78 - launched 25.2.82 - completed 15.9.86; until 5.11.85 named "Admiral Flota Lobov"; 11.4 to 12.8.86 tests in the Black Sea; 17.3.87 arrived in Severomorsk - attached to the 120th Missile Ship Brigade; 7.12.87 to 23.6.88 operations in the Mediterranean, including a visit to Tartus, Syria; 6.4.89 visited by the Soviet Commander of the Navy and the French minister of defence; 21.7 to 25.7.89 visited Norfolk, USA, together with EM "Otlichnyy" and tanker "Genrikh Gasanov" - then operations in the Mediterranean, including visits to Tartus, Syria and Algiers, Algeria - 14.12.89 returns to Severomorsk; 16.7 to 20.7.91 visited Mayport, USA, together with BPK "Simferopol"; 12.6.93 left Severomorsk together with BPK "Admiral Kharlamov" and the tanker "Dnestr" - 30.6 to 5.7.93 visited Halifax, Canada and 7.7 to 11.7.93 Boston, USA - 23.7.93 returned to Severomorsk; 2.9.94 to 14.12.97 repairs and modernization at the Northern Yard, St. Petersburg (13th Brigade of Constructed and Overhauled Ships); 15.1.98 left Baltiysk, and arrived in Severomorsk 21.1.98; 29.5.98 visited by the King of Norway; 23.7 to 26.7.98 took part in exercice "Kumzha"; 22.8.98 took part in an exercice in the presence of the Russian President

Chervona Ukraina - 61 Kommunara - serial no. 2010 - laid down 31.7.79 - launched 28.8.83 - completed 25.12.89; 15.8 to 1.12.89 tests in the Black Sea - flag raised 7.1.90; 5.6 to 8.6.90 visited Kiel, Germany; 15.9.90 to 3.11.90 sailed form Sevastopol to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatka, together with EM "Bystryy" - visited Cam Ranh Bay, Vietnam (22.10 to 24.10.90) - attached to the 173rd Missile Ship Brigade; 24.8.95 took part in the 60th anniversary of the Pacific Fleet in Vladivostok; 21.12.95 renamed "Varyag"; 11.10.96 took part in an exercise with the Russian Minister of Defence onboard; 3.2 to 19.2.97 visited Inchon, South Korea - and took part in a joint exercise; 30.12.97 suffered a fire, but only little damage; 29.9 to 6.10.99 visited Shanghai, China, together with EM "Burnyy"; 1.10 to 24.10.2002 visited Yokosuka, Japan; 10.2 to 15.2.2004 visited Inchon, South Korea, together with BPK "Admiral Tributs" and MPK "Koreets"; 2005 began repairs and modernization at Dalzavod, Vladivostok - ZRK Fort (SA-N-6) replaced by a modified version Fort-M - ZRK Osa-M (SA-N-4) replaced with ZRK Gyurza - 30mm AK-630M guns replaced by ZRAK Kortik (30mm guns and missiles)

Admiral Flota Lobov - 61 Kommunara - serial no. 2011 - laid down 29.8.84 - launched 11.8.90; until 23.3.85 known as "Komsomolets"; 18.3.93 decomissioned from the Russian Navy, and taken over by Ukraine (75% complete) - 20.3.93 renamed "Vilna Ukraina"; anchored at 61 Kommunara, Nikolayev; 1999 visited by the Ukrainian President; 2001 little work done, now 87% complete - attempt to sell the hull to Russia failed; originally planned for the Northern Fleet

Oktyabrskaya Revolutsiya - 61 Kommunara - serial no. 2012 - laid down 15.11.88; Project 11641; until 30.12.87 named "Rossiya"; work stopped in 1989; 4.10.90 excluded, and scrapped - originally intended for the Baltic Fleet

Admiral Flota Sovetskogo Soyuza Gorshkov - 61 Kommunara - serial no. 2013 - laid down was planned for mid-1989, with delivery in 1994; Project 11641; excluded 4.10.90 - originally intended for the Black Sea Fleet
