In 29.12.77 a special commando force was activated within the 2nd Motorised Rifle Regiment,
and was called the training company for special purpose, which in 1989 formed
the basis of the special force "Vityaz".
In 7.79 the Independent Medical Battalion was activated.
Awarded the order of the October Revolution in 1980.
21.10.81 parts of the division were deployed to Ordzhonikidze,
Severo-Osetinskaya ASSR, to help quell the local riots.
2.5.86 secured the evacuation zone after the Chernobyl nuclear
accident.

1988 to 1991 took part in several internal security operations,
mainly in Armenia, Azerbaizhan (Baku), Georgia and Uzbekistan.
In 1989 the 3rd Special Motorised Militia Regiment was detached,
and became independent as the 23rd Special Motorised Militia Brigade.
5.91 a new 3rd Novgorodskiy Motorised Rifle Regiment (military
unit: 3402 - with BMP-2 and BTR-80) was
activated in Reutov, from the Independent Tank Battalion and the Independent Artillery
Battalion.
5.5.91 the 6th Detachment for Special Use VV MVD (military unit:
3485) was activated, partly from the training battalion.
In 1991 the Independent Training Automobile Battalion was
renamed 60th independent Training Automobile Regiment.
In 1992 the 3rd Novgorodskiy Motorised Rifle Regiment was
renamed 193rd independent Novogorodskiy Motorised Rifle Battalion.
2.94 renamed Independent orders of Lenin and the October
Revolution Red Banner Operational Division VV MVD Russia.
