Activated 14.2.67 in Simferopol, Crimean Oblast, replacing the 45th Army Corps, which was moving to the Far East - activation was completed 1.10.67.

In 4.69 the 52nd Motorised Rifle Division was transferred to Nizhneudinsk, Irkutsk Oblast, and was replaced by the new 157th Motorised Rifle Division.
