The 116th Fighter Aviation Regiment joined the division 12.45, after the 295th Fighter Aviation Division had been disbanded - by this time almost all divisions were increased to four regiments.
In April 1947 a new directive was issued, reducing all divisions to the regular three regiment size, and the 609th Fighter Aviation Regiment was disbanded.
