Activated 10.79 in Khyrov, Lvov Oblast, from parts of the 80th Guards Parachute Regiment.

Organisation 1980:

• 3rd Airborne Battalion (foot)
• 4th Landing Assault Battalion (vehicle)
• Artillery Battalion
• Anti-Aircraft Artillery Battalion

In 1.80 one battalion was deployed to Termez, Surkhandar'inskaya Oblast, for operations in Afghanistan, and was renamed 48th independent Landing-Assault Battalion.

Due to the troubles in the Nagorno-Karabakh region, the brigade was temporarily deployed to the region in 1.90 (probably via Stepanakert airport) - returned home 4.90.

1.6.90 transferred to the VDV, and renamed 224th Airborne Training Center.

1.92 taken over by Ukraine.
