Activated 5.60 in Nizhniy Tagil, Sverdlovsk Oblast, under the 202nd Missile Brigade, from 30.5.61 the 42nd Missile Division.

Controlled three R-16 (SS-7) battalions (sites):

• 1st Battalion (BSP-2) with 2 R-16 pads
• 2nd Battalion (BSP-5) with 2 R-16 pads
• 3rd Battalion (BSP-11) with 2 R-16 pads

Disbanded 15.4.63, and each battalion became independent:

• 1st Battalion became the 67th independent Missile Battalion (see the 595th Missile Regiment)
• 2nd Battalion became the 40th independent Missile Battalion (see the 175th Missile Regiment)
• 3rd Battalion became the 66th independent Missile Battalion (see the 580th Missile Regiment)
