Activated 6.60 in Kozelsk, Kaluga Oblast, under the 198th Missile Brigade, and from 5.61 the 28th Guards Missile Division.
Controlled site BSP-31 with 3 R-9A silos - alert duty from 23.12.64.
Originally also controlled a pad site (Type IIC pads - launch site C) - possibly called BSP-32, which was later abandoned. This battalion possibly became the 368th Missile Regiment in March 1964.
In 1969 the BSP-21 site was transferred to the 656th Missile Regiment:
The regiment stood down 1976, and was disbanded (1976).
US designation 1960-1977: Kozelsk ICBM Complex (Launch Site E, later Launch Site 5). Type IIIB silos.
