Activated 4.52 in Kapustin Yar, Astrakhan Oblast, as the 1st Launch Battalion of the 54th Brigade for Special Use RVGK.

3.53 renamed the 637th independent Engineer Battalion, now under the 85th Engineer Brigade RVGK.

5.59 transferred to Taurage, Lithuania, and renamed 637th Guards Engineer Regiment RVGK, attached to the 85th Engineer Brigade RVGK.

1.7.60 renamed 637th Guards Missile Regiment, attached to the 29th Guards Missile Division.

Organisation:

From 29.9.62 attached to the 58th Missile Division.

Honoured with the name "imeni 50-Letiya SSSR" in 1972.

The two battalions stood down in 1989, and the regiment was disbanded shortly thereafter (1989).

US designation: Taurage MRBM complex (Taurage launch sites 1 and 3). Type I (pad) sites.

Two alternative fixed field sites for the pad launchers, were set up at Skaudvile (55 23 14N, 22 31 45E) and Taurage (55 09 43N, 22 15 04E), but both was apparently inactive by 1967.
