Activated 1953 in Smolino, Moscow Oblast - initially as the 1973rd Anti-Aircraft Artillery Regiment for Special Use and from 1955 as the 754th Anti-Aircraft Missile Regiment for Special Use.

1953 to 1982 equipped with 60 S-25 (SA-1) launchers:

• Launch area: 55 21 08N, 36 29 19E (US designation: Moscow SAM site E24-1)
• Support area: 55 21 57N, 36 29 13E
• Guidance area: 55 21 51N, 36 31 15E

In 1967 a S-125 (SA-3) battalion was added to the regiment - 55 20 53N, 36 27 30E (Moscow SAM site E24-3)

1982 converted to the S-300PT (SA-10), and was reduced to an independent Anti-Aircraft Missile Battalion of the 791st Anti-Aircraft Missile Regiment.
