Activated 1953 in Nazarovo, Moscow Oblast - initially as the 0000 Anti-Aircraft Artillery Regiment for Special Use and from 1955 as the 618th Anti-Aircraft Missile Regiment for Special Use.

1953 to 1988 equipped with 60 S-25 (SA-1) launchers:

• Launch area: 56 06 21N, 38 01 17E (US designation: Moscow SAM site C04-1)
• Support area: 56 05 36N, 38 01 31E
• Guidance area: 56 05 20N, 37 59 59E

1988 converted to the S-300PM (SA-10), and was reduced to an independent Anti-Aircraft Missile Battalion of the 629th Anti-Aircraft Missile Regiment.
