Activated 9.63 in Balkhash (Site 9), Dzhezkazgan Oblast.
Consisted of complex OS-2 (Satellite Detection-2) with initially
four 5N15 Dnestr (NATO: dual Hen House) radars, with a fifth 5N15M (Dnestr-M) added
later. While the main fuction was satellite detection, the fifth radar's
function was early warning against missile attack.
Contruction of the first four nodes (radars) began in the spring
of 1964. The fifth node (radar) was added by decision on 29.6.67.

building - accepted into service in 1970 - went off duty 29.9.95

upgraded to 5N86M Dnepr-M during the 1980's

Contruction of the 90N6 Daryal-U radar (NATO: Pechora) (one transmitter and one
receiver) began in 1982. Installation of equipment began in 1988, and plant
tests began 1991, but all work stopped in 1994. 10.2002 transferred to
Kazakhstan, and partially burnt down 9.2004.
