Note that all vessels built at A.A. Zhdanov were attached to the 13th Brigade of Constructed and Overhauled Ships while under construction, and was attached to the 76th Destroyer Brigade during testing in the Baltic Sea.

Original plans called for 50 units of the class, but in 1976 the number was reduced to 32, after the design was completed, and the total cost had been calculated. In 1988 the number was again reduced, now to 20 units, due to reductions in military spending.

A.A. Zhdanov Shipyard was 2.8.89 renamed the Northern Shipyard.
