Activated 6.59 in Skorbeevska, Murmansk Oblast, from the 735th independent Mobile Coastal Artillery Battalion.
Initially equipped with 2 battalions of 4K87 Solka (NATO: SSC-2B Samlet)
1971 to 1974 converted to the 4K44B Redut (SSC-1 Sepal).
1985 to 1988 converted to the 3M44 Progress (SSC-1 Sepal).
In 1.93 renamed 522nd independent Coastal Missile and Artillery Brigade.
In 1.93 a third battalion (762nd independent Coastal Missile Battalion in Oleniya) was added to the brigade.
1.12.95 renamed 89th independent Coastal Missile Regiment.
In 1998 renamed 536th independent Coastal Missile and Artillery Brigade.
Launch positions were on the Rybachiy peninsula, especially in the area west of Guba Vayda.
