Activated 28.11.68 in Tbilisi, Georgian SSR, from the 24th Department for Escort and Protection.

In 1984 the 000 Training Battalion was renamed 19th Training Regiment.

The 453rd Escort Regiment was disbanded in 1989.

In 2.89 the 36th and the 61st Operational Regiments was activated in Yerevan, Armenian SSR.

In 1989 three additional independent Special Motorised Militia Battalions were activated (80th, 86th and 91st).

In 1989 the 35th independent Special Motorised Militia Battalion was renamed 140th independent Special Motorised Militia Regiment, while the 37th independent Special Motorised Militia Battalion was renamed 14th independent Special Motorised Militia Regiment.

Organisation 1990:

In 1990 the 61st Operational Regiment was renamed 5th Division VV MVD SSSR.

In 1990 the 454th Escort Regiment, 514th 514th independent Escort Battalion and 36th independent Special Motorised Militia Battalion were transferred to the 5th Division VV MVD SSSR.

In 1990 the 180th independent Motorised Battalion was activated in Tskhinvali, Yugo-Osetinskaya Autonomous Oblast (military unit: 3662).

In 1990 the 80th independent Special Motorised Militia Battalion was renamed 57th independent Special Motorised Militia Regiment.

In 1991 the 451st order of the Red Star Motorised Regiment was renamed 8th order of the Red Star Operational Brigade, and the 36th Operational Regiment was renamed 7th Operational Brigade.

In mid-1991 the 000 independent Motorised Battalion was activated in Gumista, Abkhazskaya ASSR (military unit: 3697).
