Activated 20.4.57 in Olympisches Dorf, East Germany, as the 19th Motorised Rifle Division, from the 1st Mechanised Division.

Organisation 1957:

In 5.58 the 63rd Motorised Rifle Regiment was transferred to the 11th Guards Motorised Rifle Division, and was replaced by the 83rd Guards Motorised Rifle Regiment, from the same division.

Organisation 1960:

In 8.60 the 19th independent Tank Battalion was activated.

In 1961 the 315th independent Missile Battalion was activated.

19.2.62 the 37th independent Equipment Maintenance and Recovery Battalion was activated.

1.1.65 renamed 35th Motorised Rifle Division.

22.2.68 awarded the Red Banner.

In 1968 the 18th independent Sapper Battalion was renamed 18th independent Engineer-Sapper Battalion, while the 485th independent Anti-Tank Artillery Battalion was activated.

Organisation 1970:

In 1972 the 000 independent Chemical Defence Company was renamed 283rd independent Chemical Defence Battalion.

In 1980 the 675th independent Motor Transport Battalion was renamed 1127th independent Material Supply Battalion, and the 41st independent Reactive Artillery Battery was absorbed by the Artillery Regiment.

In 8.88 the 315th independent Missile Battalion was transferred to the new 464th Missile Brigade.

In 5.89 the 219th Tank Regiment was transferred to the Soviet Union (disbanded), and was replaced by the 69th Motorised Rifle Regiment (Wünsdorf), from the 32nd Guards Tank Division.
