2.80 to mid-1981 - selected crews operated as the 2nd squadron/50th independent Mixed Aviation Regiment in Afghanistan.

In May 1986 some crews were detached to Chernobyl, Kiev Oblast - to assist in the clean-up effort after the nuclear accident.

Reduced to two squadrons in the late 1990's.

1.7.02 reduced again and renamed 125th independent Helicopter Squadron.
