1960 transferred to the Air Defence Forces, and renamed 655th Fighter Aviation Regiment PVO.

From 7.85 to 6.86 deployed to Bagram [34 56 44N, 69 15 46E] and Shindand, Afghanistan [33 23 29N, 61 15 35E].

Disbanded 1993.
