Formed 26.8.39 in Duisburg from Flak-Stamm-Bttr. Duisburg, with 1. - 5. Batterien (1. - 3. schwere, 4. - 5. schwere). Until 7.42 known as Res.Flak-Abt. 644.
Reorganised as a schwere Abteilung in 1942:
4./Res.644 became 1./739, and was reformed from Luftwaffen-Sperrfeuer-Batterie 161
5./Res.644 became 2./739Destroyed 5.43 in Tunisia.
Reformed 7.43 in Bruck/Mur with 4 Batterien.
In 6.44 part of the Abteilung became Stab, 1.-4./Flak-Abteilung 12900 (mot.) and moved to Normandy.
Reorganised as a gemsichte Flak-Abteilung in 9.44.
