Formed 26.8.39 in Schönebeck from parts of I./Flak-Regiment 52, with 1. - 5. Batterien (1. - 3. schwere, 4. - 5. leichte). Until 7.42 known as Res.Flak-Abt. 523.
Reorganised as a schwere Abteilung in early 1942:
4./Res.523 became 4./392, and was reformed
5./Res.523 became 2./7363. and 4./s.523 was destroyed 5.43 in Tunisia, and was reformed (7.43).
