Began activation in January 1944 as Armeetruppe (attached to 1. Fallschirm-Armee), with 2 battalions (each 4 companies, I. 1-4, II. 5-8).

In 6.44 renamed Fallschirm-Panzer Regiment 21.

Activation was never completed and the unit never saw any combat.

Officially disbanded 8.44.
